It is time for balance and time to remember what we know to be true. Deep within most people is the knowing that pain and discomfort are natural states when healing. This is the truth... in a multitude of ways and to varying degrees for most of us while in healing.
Whether healing is related to your past, or whether it is physical, psychological, emotional or spiritual there are going to be different levels of pain and discomfort involved. When we are willing to feel our discomfort, even when it becomes painful, this can move us into the potentiality of the change that is waiting to unfold.
Discomfort can be a Sacred experience. When your discomfort leads you into healing and changing your life, there is the Sacred. Remember it was this unease that led you into what was needed. Here is the service of discomfort… our Soul calling us into more full alignment with ourselves.
An aspect of our out of balance society is the belief that we should not feel pain or discomfort. We see this showing up in the high levels of addiction we face as a Social collective. I have experienced after surgical procedures the doctors and nurses being surprised when I have half or more of my pain medication left in less than two weeks following surgery.
That being said, after knee surgery I do not want to be in excruciating pain where I am unable to get around or sleep. This would impede my recovery. I understand the benefit that pain medication provides. It helps to regulate and relieve the initial pain, which is definitely needed. My intention in the process of regulating my pain is not to avoid all or most of the pain, but instead to aid me into regulating the pain naturally by myself.
We need to understand that being alerted through experiencing pain and discomfort is one of our body’s means of communicating. This communication may be trying to wake us up or to stop us. I have encountered in my own life and witnessed with other people how our bodies’ tendency is to not stop until we listen. What a powerful gift.
Part of our work is to help people remember the truth. Discomfort can show up in other areas and ways... our life or current state of affairs... alerting us that something is not right. Perhaps something is not aligned with our values, truth or justice.
Discomfort is coming through in order to reach us. When we feel the deep pain of betraying ourselves or dishonoring someone else, this profound feeling state helps us have the will and the desire to change. See the various ways that pain and discomfort have purpose and serve.
Another beautiful gift of pain and discomfort... they can help build character. There have been times in my life walk that I have had to call people out, and many times I was the only one saying... This is not okay. This is not just. This must stop. This felt bad and overwhelming to hold all on my own. My deep knowing and understanding of the truth is what has kept me going.
The willingness to feel bad and uncomfortable when needed is what will help change and heal our world, even if this impact seems to be happening in our own little corner.
The willingness to feel discomfort and feel badly in order to do what is needed creates depth, integrity, character and the ability to walk in truth. The openness and willingness to feel discomfort or pain is needed in order to be Real and heal.
This might show up in personal issues, at work or when you are out in the world. Our willingness to have a full spectrum of emotions and experiences makes us whole people. When we are whole we have depth and dimension, which gives us the ability to ride through whatever is before us and to truly deal with our lives. Instead of medicating, numbing or distracting ourselves.
It is now time to stop our out of control selves and society. Time to get Real and heal. We need to create a movement welcoming truth back into our lives. We do not die from seeing the truth, quite the opposite we are freed up to actually live being in truth. We become unencumbered.
It is time to go into our dysfunction, addiction and other issues. It is time to honor and respect our life’s journey, even what we consider wrong. Here are our lessons, what can become our wisdom if we are willing to learn from our life and our experiences.
A powerful tool I have used when I have worked with people is to remind them that they are not their choices. Their Higher Self and their Soul are not the choices that they make in their lives.
It is true we and the people around us can be affected by the choices that we make. It is important to hold the truth that our choices, again, do not define us. And here is the beauty of choice... we can choose at any moment to make a different choice, a choice for ourselves and for life, creating a new way.
This is the path not only to our new way but the path of rectification. By making intentional choices grounded in integrity, honor, respect and regard we can own our lives, be accountable for all we have chosen and set things right.
It can be very painful and uncomfortable to heal from any of these dysfunctional elements. One of the truths of healing is that we have to be willing to feel the pain and discomfort we have been avoiding, suppressing, self-medicating and distracting ourselves from. It is the Divine truth that pain is a natural state when we are healing from emotional wounds.
A perfect example of this is when we are healing from a broken bone, where we understand and even expect that there will be pain and discomfort involved in this healing process. Our intention is to help people expand and remember the truth of healing, that it is not meant to be all light, fresh-scented emotions. (Karla McLaren, The Language of Emotions, 2010)
Hopefully, remembering this simple reality can help you open up and embrace the pain and discomfort you have long avoided.

I was shown how there is a general perspective in our world regarding anger... this view goes in the direction that we should be getting out of anger pretty much completely. What I am addressing here is the standard where we should not be feeling or showing anger, and if we do have anger we should rise above it. It feels like there is an underlying belief that anger is wrong. It is just negative and wrong. Period. Especially for women.
Post Script... As of 2017 Consecrated Living is so thankful and excited to see this long-standing pattern starting to be broken up.
In Consecrated Living, when we are working with anger we look at the context we are dealing with. If we were to look at our planet and what is happening, it is pretty apparent there is a lot going on that is outrageous to which anger is a natural, appropriate and healthy response.
Part of what heals outrageous acts, beliefs and elements is outrage and anger. A common collapsed notion around anger goes like this...
If I get outraged and angry about outrageous things, then I will just descend into an angry pit and will never be productive or appropriate and will only cause division.
From this collapsed understanding people fear anger and cannot feel its purposefulness and service. This is because they have locked in on anger being wrong, unproductive or inappropriate only. To a degree it makes sense that there is fear of anger, due to how some have used anger and rage inappropriately and without the needed and powerful effects for which anger is here to serve us.
The collapsed assumption is... Whenever I respond from a place of anger or outrage, even though it is needed, then anger is all that I am. An angry person. Upset all the time. Cannot let things go, cannot overlook anything or rise above conflicts and problems.
It is our limitation as people to think that if we have strong emotions come up around issues or problems, then we are just going to be stuck in them or be that all the time.
The opposite is true. The more room we give to the truth of how we feel and what is coming up through our emotions, the more quickly and easily these feelings and emotions get processed and then dissipate. The bonus of being open to our feelings and emotions is that we can be effective, of service and purposeful in our lives in a more full, real way. This effectiveness is due to us being aligned with our emotions and our intention to act on what we feel is needed, based on the context of what is before us.
Another limited perspective about anger is... If I get angry or outraged, I am now just part of the problem, I am no different than the issue I am angry about.
This notion can at times be true if our intentions and actions are no different than that of who or what we are addressing. However, when anger and outrage are used with the healthy intention to create change, to stop outrageousness and to make a difference in our world, we then experience the purpose of having these emotions in our arsenal.
If we look back throughout our history it has been anger and outrage that created the most effective, powerful current of change. Even if acted out in nonviolent ways, anger and outrage were still leading the cause. They were the fuel behind the change.
Leaders who have been considered peaceful, like Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., and Mahatma Gandhi, first felt anger and outrage and then spoke out openly about it. These strong emotional responses gave them the clarity to see and the strength to keep going. We are humans having a Divine experience and lesson. Anger is part of our natural feeling state but it can still feel bad and overwhelming. This is especially so in a culture that is so against anyone showing up in outrage or anger, even when needed.
That being said, it is understandable for our culture to have this perspective as part of the pendulum effect. For so long people have acted so extreme and unaccountable in their anger, that we are now in a counter movement trying to correct one extreme with another. This new extreme has brought us to a place of believing we should evolve out of or above expressing anger.
In Consecrated Living we are here to offer some balance. Anger and outrage are a needed part of our walk here on Earth, especially while we are trying to shift the planet. With the density and insanity that is vibrating on this plane, being willing to fully feel our anger and outrage is the most powerful aspect we can be using to heal ourselves and the planet.
Spirit always works with what is needed. And at this pivotal point in time anyone willing to show up in authentic anger or outrage will strengthen the current of needed transformation.
