Our Imperfections Are Perfect
There are many valuable ways of being human, and they each have their own worth.
I was shown a picture through my guides of how my dyslexia has been a perfect part of my journey. One of the examples the Universe gave me is the impact my dyslexia has on people in our very linear culture, who tend to buy into a belief system that says there is one right way to be, or at least a better way to be.
When people are before me who don't know how I work they tend to get confused by my dyslexia. For example, I might not be able to find the right words, or I mix words together (like organtic which is obviously organic and authentic!), I make up my own words, at times use incorrect grammar, and speak circularly, repeating themes often. I am also quite capable of speaking eloquently and clearly. Even so, with these other elements present, often linear people feel the need to correct me.
Being shown this, I could feel more profoundly how purposeful being outside the box is and how it serves to break up limitations, help people expand, and understand there are many right ways to be in the world.
An aspect of my work at the macro level is to help people see there are many ways of being in the world, and that differences are the natural and unique state of being human. The micro focus is walking people into honoring, loving, and respecting their own unique truth, gifts, and way of being. Walking outside the world my whole life and being dyslexic has enabled me to align with my imperfections and have deep appreciation for uniqueness and differences.
The Divine is serving us all. My life walk has helped me stand in my truth and to show up in the fullness of my own unique self. Because I have walked my own path, and been able to see myself including my shadow, this has given me the ability to see there are many valuable ways of being human, and they each have their own worth.
The typical path for most people is to buy into outside influences and collective beliefs and use them as their own internal compass. These beliefs generally dictate there is a legitimate, correct way to be. From this perspective they are supposed to learn how to be right in every way. Find the correct way of being and nail it. We have a strong collective stream that says this is the standard of what is right and valuable. This limits people’s ability to be in what is real. It limits their ability also to show up authentically because it feels too vulnerable and they may feel exposed.
I am here to create space for a deeper understanding of how there are many ways to be, and many ways to have value. And most importantly open the door for being authentic and real.
I will sit before you in what a portion of our society would think of as imperfect and in need of fixing. I am not going to correct what the world sees as flawed. I am embracing it. And not only am I embracing my imperfections, I am using them as part of my gifts to the world.
Here are my imperfections, World. Let me offer them to help you stretch, to help you see and understand. I can then be an example of authenticity. Here's my way, a model of someone embracing and aligning with her imperfections, and allowing them to amplify her gifts. I have no need to fix myself or to see my authentic traits as wrong and bad. Here I am in my imperfections seeing them as good.
Play around and find your way in feeling at home with your imperfections, loving and honoring them. It can be done. And for most people, this needs to be done.
Start noticing and being willing to see the arbitrary standards you may be striving to meet. These standards are external, pressing in from outside you, and they are confining, often ignoring the wisdom and beauty of diversity. Feel how these rules are arbitrary, while being laid down as the objective reality, the right way of being. They are assumed to be the measuring stick, the bar, the plumb line. There is great power in being willing to see and feel how this belief system and its measurements are impacting your life.
See how these standards are externally derived. Although they may feel internal, be open to seeing this is because you took them on at such an early stage of life. You have lived and walked in them for so long, and generally these external standards are shared by the people around you.
Start feeling and noticing what happens in your body. And where and how your body is responding to these external laws when you feel them operating in your life. Once you feel how your body is responding, be willing to allow whatever shows up to be there. See, feel, and listen to what it has to tell you. These are the first steps in realizing how outside principles may not actually be aligned with your own internal perspective. This bodywork is called processing.
I am here to show you how to be comfortable with imperfections. I am at home with being imperfect and backwards.
Of course, it is good that we have different methods and solutions to help people overcome things like dyslexia. If somebody is illiterate or genuinely struggles with reading, then they do need to be helped. But they do not need to be fixed. They need to be able to function, and literacy is powerful and necessary. For those who feel they can benefit from the assistance, there are means of helping them work through a myriad of challenges.
I am addressing the imbalance stemming from the belief that anything seen as defective needs to be changed, fixed, or stamped out. If you're experiencing dyslexia or ADHD, then you need to be fixed. If you’re autistic, something went wrong. You need to be different than you are. What if, instead we were to ask, What gifts does this trait or way of being have to offer?
I am not meant to get rid of all my imperfections, flaws, or disabilities. And I want to create space for others to decide what is real and right for them. My hope is my example helps free others from measuring themselves based on what the world dictates they should be. I encourage you to line up with and honor the areas of your life you are meant to change, shift and grow out of. Even more so, discern and honor which aspects are meant to be here to serve you.
