“I will not be reduced by . . . .” When we decide to go into healing, seeing ourselves and really looking at our lives, one of the elements that shows up is the feeling of being so vulnerable and exposed. The dysfunctional parts of ourselves feel threatened and ready to protect. This can show up in response to something as small as a suggestion, guidance, basic input, someone else just having a different experience or opinion. Everything becomes a statement about me. “What are you saying about me!?” It can feel like, “I’m reduced, because I didn’t get it right, didn’t know, forgot or did it wrong.” I feel the need to defend myself over things that are really nothing. We encourage people when they are in deep healing of their dysfunctional self, to be willing to use the phrase... “I will not be reduced by . . .” I will not be reduced by a mere suggestion to do something different than what I am doing or thinking. Suggestions help me learn various ways of doing things, even some of the best shortcuts! This is how I learn from other people. This expands me and makes me more-than by being open to learning. I will not be reduced by having someone add input to what I am saying. Adding input to what I am saying does not diminish what I have contributed. This can potentially be a beautiful collaboration. I become more whole by being connected and interacting with others. Healing is greater in real time, seeing ourselves in the middle of our interactions. Yes! This can be done! I will not be reduced by someone knowing more about something than I do. There is always going to be someone who knows more about something. This is my opportunity to learn to be the student and to be humble. A large aspect of our lives involves growing and changing and one of the most powerful ways in which to do so is by learning. Knowledge is the door to growth and change. I will not be reduced by having something I am doing pointed out. This is an opportunity to see myself in a more full way. This is an opportunity to see a shadow aspect of myself that needs to be dealt with or healed. Or the opportunity to teach someone something about me, why I am doing what I am doing. This does not need to trigger me or bring up my defenses. Constructive criticism and feedback is powerful and needed for a balanced, grounded life. I will not be reduced by being mistaken or wrong. My most profound lessons and wisdom come from being willing to learn from mistakes and from being wrong. Having an openness to being wrong gives me the room to show up authentically in life. Being wrong does not define who I am as a person. It is only my ego that has a problem with being wrong. I will not be reduced by not knowing. Not knowing means I get to learn, expand and grow. It does not mean that I am reduced or will be reduced. It is time for your Soul to remember in the unknown is where creation takes place. The unknown is not a void, it is not annihilation but instead the depth and breadth of who we are and what we are going to create. Photos... pippalunacy.com
